Statement of Purpose

Passion, dedication, and a heart for making a difference—these are my main motivators for pursuing writing. From a young age, writing was my only form of communication at times. This was because I was mute by choice due to the abuse I experienced. My life experiences have only enhanced my desire to share my story and the stories of others with the rest of the world. As a teenager, I was first published in the Texas Music Teachers Association publication book for a creative essay and there were times where teachers would tell me that I should publish certain works I would write for class.

When my grandfather passed away my senior year of high school, I dealt with the grief by writing and publishing a book in honor and memory of his life story. When I experienced what it was like to be in a psychiatric hospital, I was able to publish a work about my experience on the blog of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. When I went through five years of my life in treatment centers and hospitals, I was blessed to publish a book on my story and to provide encouragement to others. My own website and blog are targeted towards sharing the realities of life and truth, because I have personally felt and witnessed the power of stories, especially true stories…which is why I gave my website the name: A Lifetime of Stories.

           My goal as a writer is to make a difference by sharing true stories in my own life and others around me through my passion and love of writing that can be gifted to the rest of the world. It is in my heart to be authentic and real about what it means to be human and the struggles that we may face in this world, especially when it comes to mental illness and trauma because that is where I have the most life experience. I hope to be an advocate and voice for those who may not feel as though they have the strength to share their voice and stories with others. Pursuing the path as an author will provide me with the opportunity to grow more as a writer and to reach my goals and dreams. Not only will I be able to enhance my writing skills, gain connection, support, and knowledge from skilled professionals, but I will be able to bloom and thrive in an area of my life that is a passion and dream that I hope to turn into a lifelong career.
